vomit

Vacation Day Three.

Yesterday, we took the ferry down to Key West. In restrospect, this was a bad idea. Thre and a half hours each way, compared to spending five hours on the island.

The water was choppy. I spent the trip back emptying my stomach into a sequence of small bags.

I think I still have hydrocloric acid in my sinuses.

The key lime pie was no better in the keys than anywhere else.

swamp

Vacation Day Two.

Went to the Corkscrew Swamp Sactuary. The most interesting point in the 2.25 mi hike is when a sign asks you to stop and smell the air. It was possibly the cleanest air you have ever smelled. The sign then quoted a writer from three hundred years ago, who says swamps are places of foul air, disease and decay.

I used to live a few miles from a cypress swamp. It was a cool place.

paddling upwind

Vacation Day One.

Went kayaking with the folks. A storm had just blown through and the wind was still pretty stong, it was difficult to paddle upwind. It was more fun that way.

Baxter

I just read Stephen Baxter's Manifold Space. I picked it up on the theory that it wouldn't be as depressing as Baxter's other novels. I'm not sure why I expected that. The ending was just as just as morbid as the others. Plot summary: life sucks, then you have depressing adventures in space, then you die, then the human race becomes extinct, then the universe is destroyed.

It's the anti-startrek.

I enjoyed the show.

Today's scapegoat: religion.

sed 's/spiritual/superstitious/g'

None of it ever made a lick of sense to me.

“...he believes Jesus died for his sins. That idea is so perverse and devoid of logic it should shock the conscience.” link
